Ellesmere, The Mere

All Sites

Description

The Mere at Ellesmere is the largest and most spectacular of the nine glacial meres in North Shropshire.  The Mere attracts thousands of visitors each year.  With good access and the excellent Boathouse restaurant and visitor information centre, it is a good starting point to explore Blakemere, Whitemere, Newton Mere and Crosemere.  The Mere is surrounded by circular walks, woodlands and gardens and is a nature lover’s paradise.  Modern technology allows herons to be viewed nesting and feeding their young from the beginning of March to the end of May, all from the comfort of the visitor information centre.
